Monomoy Flat Structures
Food & Species
Structures: This is a great section of the website to scroll through and see the South Beach & Monomoy Flats Systems from the proverbial 30,000 foot view. The systems offer the Fly Fisherman a multitude of shallow flats, fingers, close top and bottom vegetated edges, deep edges, shallow edges, bottlenecks, deep channels, shallow channels, holes, bowls and a variety of substrate and bottom including sandy, muddy, firm, gravel, mussel bed, clam flat, quahog flat, and eel grass. Since the systems are remote and virtually pollution free, the area is teeming with life and packed with food for Stripers.
Food & Species: Stripers want to eat and there is a dense food supply in both ecosystems. The variety of species that add to the food chain in this breadbasket is both amazing and magnificent - Mantis Shrimp, American Lobster, Hermit Crab, Long Clawed Hermit Crab, Flame Box Crab, Spider Crab, Jonah Crab, Atlantic Rock Crab, Blue Crab, Green Crab, Lady Calico Crab, Amphipod Scuds, Northern Horse Mussel, Blue Mussel, Bay Scallop, Sea Scallop, Ocean Quahog, Northern Quahog, Amethyst Gem Clam, Razor Clam, Softshell Clam, Northern Moon Snail, Sharkeye Moon Snail, Longfin Squid, Northern Shortfin Squid, Horseshoe Crab, Sea Urchin, Milky Ribbon Worm, Micruran Nemerteans, Common Clam Worm, Sand Worm, Bamboo Worm, Common Blood Worm, Trumpet Worm, Lugworm, Thread Worm, Red-Lined Worm, Paddle Worm, Mud Worm, Thorny Skate, Little Skate, Winter Skate, Clearnose Skate, American Eel, Blueback Herring, Alewife, American Shad, Atlantic Menhaden, Atlantic Herring, Striped Anchovy, Bay Anchovy, Rainbow Smelt, Inshore Lizardfish, Snakefish, Oyster Toadfish, Goosefish, Fourbeard Rockling, Atlantic Cod, Haddock, Silver Hake, Atlantic Tomcod, Pollock, Red Hake, Spotted Hake, White Hake, Atlantic Silverside, Red Cornetfish, Blues Spotted Cornetfish, Northern Pipefish, Black Seabass, Rock Hind, Snowy Grouper, Gag, Scamp, Bigeye, Glasseye Snapper, Short Bigeye, Bluefish, African Pompano, Yellow Jack, Blue Runner, Mackerel Scad, Round Scad, Bigeye Scad, Atlantic Monkfish, Banded Rudderfish, Scup, Weakfish, Spot, Norther Kingfish, Red Goatfish, Dwarf Goatfish, Sportfin Butterflyfish, Tautog, Cunner, Northern Sennet, Guaguanche, Snakeblenny, Rock Gunnel, Ocean Pout, Northern Sand Lance, Atlantic Mackerel, Butterfish, Northern Searobin, Striped Sea Robin, Sea Raven, Grubby, Longhorn Sculpin, Alligator fish, Lumpfish, Atlantic Seasnail, Flying Gurnard, Gulf Stream Flounder, Smallmouth Flounder, Summer Flounder, Fourspot Flounder, Windowpane, Yellowtail Flounder, Winter Flounder, Hogchoker, Orange Filefish, Scrawled Filefish, Gray Triggerfish, Planehead Filefish, Trunkfish, Northern Puffer, and the list goes on.
